Co-owned property dispute
A disagreement between property co-owners may concern a sale, proposed buyout, ownership shares or how expenses have been paid. Separate the result you want from the ownership and payment records that support the discussion. A mortgage statement and a deed answer different questions. Do not assume a particular sale, allocation or court result before a lawyer reviews the documents.
- Current deed and any written co-ownership agreement
- Mortgage, tax, repair and other shared-payment records
- Proposed buyout terms and existing court papers
Location to identify: The property address and county, parties to the lease or contract and court named on any papers.
Ask a lawyer: What ownership, payment and agreement issues need review before considering a sale or buyout?
